Since I got back from the camping trip, my brakes haven’t been what they used to be. I got a full brake job last December and even replaced all lines and the E-brake. There’s no rubbing or rotor damage it just feels like I don’t have any brake pressure. i ignored it for the most part until today when I was on my way to work and leaving my side road into a busy intersection and hit the brakes and I didn’t stop….
At 40 miles per hour I rolled toward the intersection. I cut the power and jacked the E-brake and managed to make it out alive without hitting anyone but I immediately cranked the car up and drove (yea I drove) to my mechanic which I believe said those brakes have a 36,000 mile warranty and I’ve probably driven about 12 thousand this year. It appears to just be leakage so they’re checking it out and will get back to me today.
However, pretty freaking scary. I attempted to twitter but it appears twitter is down so a blog post will suffice.
It appears that this episode has gone viral. I’m starting to get fan letters even! This appeared in my mailbox yesterday attached to a bottle of honey…
It’s 5PM. Do I know where my inspiration is? I have a lot to do today and I honestly get so much done when I go to a local coffee shop. So much, that I wanted to post a blog about what I have to get done today
- Stream on Justin.TV for an hour
- Create a simple design for dad’s new site
- blog on resolute opinion (ha! two birds with one stone)
- modify some legal documents for dad
- create the macworld 2008 advertising document
- Send some emails out to last year’s advertisers
- Try to avoid caffeine
I’m so excited that the first annual Justin.TV awards are live! I’m only excited because there’s a potential that I could be nominated and possibly win stuff
3) then fill out the form and submit your favorite clip! it may have already been nominated i’ve seen a few of the clips I’vet ried to submit have already been nominated so thanks everyone!
I left my house this morning and felt the brisk 58 degree wind hit my face. A smile went across my face, I jumped up and down and went back inside to grab my corduroy jacket and beanie hat.
I love this kind of weather. 30 degrees is too cold and 70 degrees is too hot. 50 to 65 degrees is just right and reminds me of San Francisco and Macworld! At exactly 90 days to macworld, the weather gets very brisk and my itch for expo gets stronger. Macworld is coming and I can’t effin wait!
So here’s my first and only update from Birmingham. I don’t think I’ll be doing another. Anyway, I’m here in Montgomery Alabama to be exact. I’m still 2 hours south of Bham and its 10:40 which is an hour later than I expected to arrive in Bham. So I’ll at least be three hours late to my destination.
Outside of Dothan, my mom’s Xterra check engine light came on and the thing was rattling bad. It felt like a decrease in horsepower and idling was rough and the thing would just die while at red lights.
So, I called Nissan in Montgomery and they were complete idiots. Here’s their information.
Yea, what a complete pain in my ass to call them. They just didn’t care or try. So, I rolled into a general imports mechanic shop and after an hour of diags the car had two pistons that weren’t firing. The guy was very friendly and knowledgeable and even took me under the hood. I’ve been doing my own semi-tune ups and I could see how bad it was. He offered to do a partial repair for under 200 but I wanted the whole whammy. $350 for a complete tune up and that was including only 50 for labor for the 1.5 hours.
Luckily:
there was a waffle house next door to chill in
I was able to receive wi-fi from a nearby hotel
So I’ve been keeping myself entertained, drinking OJ, feeding off wireless and doing my geek things. $350 is high but he’s replacing all four piston rings, championspark plugs, cables and some other minor hardware fixes. He took off the 85 bucks just to diagnose it cause the manager wasn’t there to enforce it.
I’m very glad that this worked out (well I haven’t driven it yet to verify) but I does suck that I’m delayed in my trip. A 3 hour delay (finding the place, diagnostics, discussion then 1 hour for repairs) equaled his much of a delay. I just hope this completely fixes the issue and I’m able to get up to Bham. If not, then I may be here through Tuesday since columbus day is Monday and most places around here don’t have parts deliveries on the weekends.
Crossing my fingers. I’ll update this if more harm comes but everything should work out.
I haven’t written, starred in, posted in, photographed anything in 4 days. People say that the computer and blogging takes a lot of my time. it really doesn’t. i didn’t get any more done these past few days by not publishing my life.
Why was i gone? That’s private. Sorry that I can’t write more about it but it’s legal, involves the FCC and the FTC and US Customs and I can’t give any more details. Don’t worry. I won’t be going to jail and all has worked itself out.
Back to the party? Hell yea! let’s party like its 1986 (when I was born) cause that was a good year from what I hear? I’m headed to Alabama tomorrow well technicall I’m leaving Friday morning at 1:30AM but it’ll be another sleepless night. I’ll be there through Sunday and don’t worry; I’ll be flickring, twittering, lifecasting, blogging and podcasting through the entire weekend.
Check these places out over the weekend and I’m sure you’ll find plenty to do. also, I’ve been on IILWY for a while now. check it out and if you need an invite, just leave a comment and I’ll hook you up.
It’s finally happened! I’m ranked number 43 on Twitterholic in terms of updates. Out of hundreds of thousands of tweeters, I’m 43 for most updates. That’s awesome! I’d say 20 of the people in front of me are automated twitter posters like blogs and Google News. Of real people, I’d beg to differ and say that I’m in the top 25.
I’ve received a few messages (which means people actually read this thing) saying that my writing style sucks and I have poor grammar / spelling. Yea that’s right and what are you gonna do? Stop reading? That’s fine. I’m not writing for you so whatevs.
If you venture over to my technology blog, then that will contain entries that I actually proofread and performed spell check on but this blog contains ramblings, fun things and link action. It’s a personal site and I’d appreciate it if you read it like it is written and just imagine my voice reading it (you all know what I sound like) and enjoy the words. That’s about as far as it goes. Thanks for understand.
On another note, this is my first experience with wordpress. I like the backend interface and the amount of plugins and themes is huge! They have a huge development community but I can’t seem to make the site work for me. I have no idea how to create my own theme and I can’t get mint (http://haveamint.com) to work for me. I’m not sure why I need a wordpress activation key when I install plugins. It’s just very confusing. I was hoping to switch to this platform on my technical site but I don’t know how wordpress handles the load. My oher site receives 60 to 200 thousand unique IPs per month. That’s a lot and during Macworld, I’ll get close to 1 million hits. How efficient is word press at quering the SQL database and can it handle a huge load? I know that site, icanhazcheezburger or however the hell you spell it uses wordpress and they’re huge but they also have their site highly customized.
I don’t know and I think I’ll stick with the Pmachine platform for now. It works well.
