Tonight’s Orlando Trip

Uncategorized No Comments

Laura and I are going to Halloweed Horror Nights this evening in Orlando. I’ve never been and tickets are nearly 60 a piece. Thanks to Josh Hallet of http://blogorlando.com for the free tickets. I had a great time last night by the way and happy hour was awesome!

Anyway, so I’m heading out in a few minutes. It’s 1.5 hours if I haul ass to get to the park and the event is from 6:30-midnight. My plan is to stay until 11 and leave early then go to a club with Laura (i need reccomendations) and take her to a nice hotel tonight. She and I never get to paint the town so that’s what I’m hoping to do. Don’t tell her cause it’s a surprise

I need reccomendations for hotels in downtown Orlando and clubs in Orlando / Winter Park area. Thaks!

30 Hours of non-stop Twittering!

So I woke up at 7:00AM EST for work on Thursday morning. I then was up all day and just decided tonight that I wouldn’t go to sleep at all. All of you headed to BlogOrlando are going to see an Adam that is not rested because he hasn’t slept in over 24 hours.

I won’t go to sleep until 10PM Friday night and of course twittering the entire time. w00t!

It’s finally happened! I’m ranked number 43 on Twitterholic in terms of updates. Out of hundreds of thousands of tweeters, I’m 43 for most updates. That’s awesome! I’d say 20 of the people in front of me are automated twitter posters like blogs and Google News. Of real people, I’d beg to differ and say that I’m in the top 25.

Awesome!

I’ll be attending BlogOrlando tomorrow from 8:00 AM to 5:00PM EST. The program is organized by Josh Hallet. I met Josh through a client of mine. A local landmark contracted Josh to work deploy their corporate blog and after hearing his name I did some googling and found him on the interwebs.

I also saw that he organized an “unconference” every year called BlogOrlando. I signed up and tomorrow i”m taking the day off from work to head to Orlando and attend the conference. It’s a full day with an hour for lunch. They’ll have Wi-fi so you can bet your arse that I’ll be streaming / twittering / blogging and whatever else I do when Internet is free and available. Please watch the stream over at http://justin.tv/adamjacksonlive and follow my updates on http://twitter.com/adamjackson You can also check out my photos through the day at http://flickr.com/photos/adamjackson

On a side note, I can’t wait to see Judson Collier! I last saw him back in 2005. He’s a teen blogger / web designer / photographer and “spends way too much money at Starbucks.” He was a Mac fanboy back when I worked at the Apple Store and hung out there on a weekly basis. On the release day of Tiger (April 29th), his dad bought him a new 15″ Powerbook and he was officially a Mac user. He then started working for Macteens and now Judson is leading a conference track on blogging at the conference tomorrow. I’ve uploaded a pic of Judson. It’s been nearly 2.5 years since I’ve seen him. Ahh, memories…

Anyway. See you all tomorrow on JTV, Twitter and possibly in person!

Punctuality? What gives?

I’ve received a few messages (which means people actually read this thing) saying that my writing style sucks and I have poor grammar / spelling. Yea that’s right and what are you gonna do? Stop reading? That’s fine. I’m not writing for you so whatevs.

If you venture over to my technology blog, then that will contain entries that I actually proofread and performed spell check on but this blog contains ramblings, fun things and link action. It’s a personal site and I’d appreciate it if you read it like it is written and just imagine my voice reading it (you all know what I sound like) and enjoy the words. That’s about as far as it goes. Thanks for understand.

On another note, this is my first experience with wordpress. I like the backend interface and the amount of plugins and themes is huge! They have a huge development community but I can’t seem to make the site work for me. I have no idea how to create my own theme and I can’t get mint (http://haveamint.com) to work for me. I’m not sure why I need a wordpress activation key when I install plugins. It’s just very confusing. I was hoping to switch to this platform on my technical site but I don’t know how wordpress handles the load. My oher site receives 60 to 200 thousand unique IPs per month. That’s a lot and during Macworld, I’ll get close to 1 million hits. How efficient is word press at quering the SQL database and can it handle a huge load? I know that site, icanhazcheezburger or however the hell you spell it uses wordpress and they’re huge but they also have their site highly customized.

I don’t know and I think I’ll stick with the Pmachine platform for now. It works well.

Tings

Another week has passed and I continue to get behind on things. I really want to do a DailyTechTalk Live. I have two shows scripted out that I just need to do. Between the iPhone sales, technical blogging, hacking my iPhone, workouts, my 8-5 job and another task that just got put on my plate; I just don’t have time for it.

I promise to get a DailyTechTalk live cast out on Monday 9-24 on Justin.TV. I may do one before I go to the gym and do another cast after I get home. This is the only way to get everything done. I could just slack off at work but we’re too busy as it is.

The next DTT Live will be about Apple FUCKING UP THEIR ENTIRE MUSIC LINE and a few miscellaneous news items related to Mac and PC tings. The second episode will be related to Macworld. I know that you’re saying, “Jeez, isn’t Macworld in 2008?” You would be correct.

It’ll be in San Francisco and will be taking place in 113 days. I know this because I have installed a Macworld countdown widget just to make sure I don’t forget. Macworld is extremely important to DailyTechTalk and myself. I have attended Macworld expo since 2003 and don’t plan on stopping the madness anytime soon. This isn’t the place that all of the Macworld news will reside. If you really want to know about it, head over to http://macworldbound.com and get all of the info. Either way, on a personal level, the conference planning will take a huge chunk of my time. I will spend about 1-2 hours a day, five days a week until it’s conference time.

I have to plan:

- Coverage

- Parties

- Travel Arrangements for myself and a few peeps

- Hotel / plane deals for our readers

- budgeting and money management

- purchasing new equipment for specific coverage items

- I’m sure there’s more I just suck at creating bullet lists J

I bought laura an iPhone today. I went into the AT&T store to purchase 10 more iPhones and said “make that 11”. She knows how many phones I was supposed to buy and immediately went, “OMG!” and gave me a hug. I’ve never seen her so happy to be honest. She was more happy when I asked her to move in with me. LOL. Anyway, she’s setting it up now and it’s her first smartphone. The RAZR I gave her was her first cameraphone and the iPhone is another first for her. She’s ecstatic about google maps, the 2mpx camera, ipod, photo management and anytime access to Gmail. Her RAZR could do all of that but the opera browser for the razr sux and the data plan also sucked for the razr. I’m glad I made her day. Maybe I can pass it off as a very early Christmas gift.

I ended up not switching to Bellsouth. Comcast made it right with me and cancelled the double billing and apologized sincerely for the problems I had. Comcast still sucks but the upload speed for Justin.TV is fantastic and that’s the main reason I’m staying with them. Oh and regarding my bellsouth post, they don’t offer 1.5 megabits up. That’s a fucking flat out lie. They max out at 512KB. My Comcast connection is 8mb down and 768 up which I pay extra for and it helps me achieve 640×480 streaming with minimal lag.

I think that’s about all for now. I’m going to write one more post which is deserving of a separate entry. That’s the update and I hope you all enjoy it. I’m not totally convinced that Wordpress is the best but we’ll see. I’m wishing I could stress test it but now I’m rambling. Anyway, thanks ya’ll!

What’s in your iTunes?

Koooldawg asked me today why I listen to so much rap. I actually just bought a lot of new music and Kanye West’s new CD was one of the albums. It’s really good but I have a large selection of music. So, without further delay, here’s my entire iTunes library divided by Album…

Why I’m switching to Bellsouth (AT&T)

Blog Posts No Comments

There’s the whole “comcast sux” reason but other than that, Bellsouth (AT&T) has given me an offer I can’t refuse.

While at the AT&T Wireless store, I was grabbed by the AT&T DSL sales people that try to sell you on their services and I starting talking to them about the Comcast issues I’m having at home (spotty service, double billing and more) and they told me about a new service for people like me that don’t want to get a home phone line and use a cell phone as their primary communications means but still want DSL.

Anyway, here’s the deal. $45 a month gets you 6.0 megabit (ultimate) service with 1.5 megabits up. You also get a single static IP address and 24×7 tech support. I asked about modem details and he confirmed that I also received the highly configurable Netopia modem.

The great thing is, they do install a phone line but I can’t use it as a home phone. It’s a line with a non published number used strictly for the Internet and their own use. Bellsouth will install the modem and give me $125 back or 3 months of free service.

They told me just call up and ask for the Bellsouth Ultimate DSL Standalone package.

Wordpress Stats?

I want to know who’s visiting. I have Mint installed at DailyTechTalk but I really need some stats going on over here. Any free wordpress plug-ins for stats that you would recommend?

Why Teens Piss Me Off (Sometimes)

I’ll be doing an AJ Live sometime in the next three days. I’ll probably be doing it Friday night (tomorrow). I’m very behind on the DailyTechTalk Live cast and I’ll work to get one up today or tomorrow. I don’t know if anyone is even reading this so that kinda sux.

Anyway, the title of this entry will be the title and topic of the next Adam Jackson Live. Follow me on Twitter (http://twitter.com/adamjackson) and I’ll let you all know an hour in advance before my next episode. Ok, that’s all for now.

Comcast Screwed Me

I was screwed by Comcast. It’s a long story but instead of making you read through a hella-long post, I’ve put it all in one Justin.TV Segment.

Macs suck and so does your face!

Blog Posts No Comments

So my Mac crashed again on me tonight. 1.5 hours into my podcast, I stopped recording and it crashed. Sigh! Anyway, at least Justin.TV keeps all of the clips. I was able to make the archives into episodes. All of that work and drunkeness was lost! I’ve tried multiple microphones including Apple’s built-in microphone and applications from Quicktime Pro, Garageband (’06 and ‘08) and even Amaedeus Pro but each one rarely gives me a complete episode without crashing, corrupting the file or somehow managing to make me sound like a chipmunk. The only way I’ve been able to get audio out there is by recording using my iPod’s recording funtionality with an Xtreme Mac recorder and that works great. Anyway, i’ve lost another podcast and recorded an 8 minute rant for the fans which you can download on iTunes by searching for Adam Jackson or just listen to the latest episode, at libsyn.

Anyway, I’ve embedded the Adam Jackson Live clips from Justin.TV that are the episodes and maybe more entertaining because they’re animated. Sorry for the problems.

Part 1

Part 2

Hopefully I’ll get to publish a full episode next time :(

Welcome!

This is my blog. I’ve been blogging since 2002 on Livejournal, a few technology blogs and then I started MyPersonalGetaway in 2004. I continued writing there along with a few writers until August of 2006 when I took it down to launch DailyTechTalk. DTT launched in October of that year and we hosted our fourth coverage of Macworld Expo in January of this year.

I’ve been running DailyTechTalk for almost a year and I haven’t had a personal blog in 5 years so I think it’s time to start blogging about my life again. I micro-blog on Twitter, lifecast on Justin.TV and occasionally rant on DTT and podcasts but this will be self expression at its best and I hope to keep you entertained. Add us to your RSS feed and I can’t wait to express myself in a new way.
